One Sunday in June, TJ is a little fussy, and has a 103 fever. uh-oh. I don't get too panicked though, as babies seem to get random fevers quite often. The next morning, Monday, he was perfectly fine. Acting normal, and no fever. He went down for his morning nap, and slept for 3 hours (an hour longer than usual). And guess what? Woke up with the fever again! Yikes. Kayla & TJ went down for their afternoon nap, and BOTH of them slept for 3 hours. Hmmmm...strange. And Kayla woke up feeling a little warm, and turned out she had a 101 fever. I now have 2 babies with fevers. I was getting a little suspicious. Before bed that night TJ has NO interest in his bedtime bottle, but Daddy gets him to take 1/2 of it anyway. He throws it up. Yuck.
Tuesday morning arrives. 6:30am...no babies. 7am...Kayla is up. Slight fever, but acting normally. 7:30am...no TJ. 8am...no TJ. Finally, at 8:30am, I hear TJ. I open his bedroom door, turn on his light, and greet him with my normal greeting of, "GOOOOD MORNING, MR. BUTTER-MAN!!!!" Nothing. No giggling...no kicking...no little head popping up from behind the bumper. I walk up to the crib and see my little man laying on his back, dry-heaving. Uh-oh...I pick him up, and he barfs. Yuck again. We go downstairs to try to eat a little breakfast. He eats some cereal, drinks some formula...and throws up all over his high chair. We lay down with him and try a little water/juice combo about 30 minutes later...he throws that up too. He then cries....ALL DAY LONG. Just a constant low whine, really "ahhhhhhhhh...maaamaaamaaamaaa". It broke my heart. A visit to the doctor tells us he might have an ear infection (couldn't be sure because he wouldn't sit still long enough for the doc to get a good look in his ear), or he might have a stomach virus. How will we know which it is? Well, an ear infection is not contagious, and a stomach virus is. "Wait and see if his sister gets it...you'll know which it is by tomorrow." GREAT. (I wonder at which stage of medical school they teach you to make THAT diagnosis.)
By Tuesday night, TJ is no longer vomiting...and is looking ANYWHERE for food. We load him up on Pedialyte (which he LOVES) and put him to bed!
Here's our little man...not feeling too well.
Wednesday morning...TJ is better! Kayla...not so good. Still carrying that same fever she has had for the past few days. But my little Punchkin fought that tummy-virus like a champ. Refused to eat, refused to drink any more than 3 oz of formula, gagged for 20 minutes after every bottle...but NEVER threw up. She took her naps like she normally does...but couldn't play in-between. Just laid on Mommy or Daddy all day and took little naps. She is definitely Mommy's Girl. She must have overheard me telling her Dad to "suck it up" when he's sick. Here's our Punchkin, looking not so good...
By thursday night...everyone was all better! So, we got through it with minimal damage. TJ took it MUCH worse than Kayla did. Kayla never threw up, never even cried. Just laid around quietly all day. TJ vomited, fussed, whined, and even cried at night and during naps. Hmmmm...just like a MAN! Isn't it scary that you can see those tendencies even at 10 months old???
