I am a little late in moving from 4 bottles a day to 3 bottles a day, but we finally did it. We chose to lose the bottle-before-bed...much to the dismay of many people. And although my response to those people is usually "you may not judge me until you have to feed twins and put them to bed by yourself every night," I will explain myself. First, Kayla & TJ take 23 oz in their other 3 bottles a day, which is within the daily recommended formula/milk intake. Second, it was becoming VERY difficult to give bottles to 2 babies by myself when Smitty is at school. Since I cannot hold both of them in my arms at the same time (and all hell breaks loose if one of them sees you giving a bottle to the other), they usually lay on the floor and drink their bottles. So our once nice, quiet bedtime routine started to become Mommy chasing the two of them around the room shoving bottles in their mouths while they crawled away from me laughing. I realized that if they are hungry and I have food, they will practically climb up my legs to get to the food. So if I am chasing them around the room to drink a bottle...they are clearly not hungry anymore. And the truth is...the older they get the more difficult it will become to take that bottle away, so why not try it now?
We decided to replace the "bottle time" with a story, followed by their normal teeth brushing. And I have to say...they took to the new schedule without any issues at all! No one made a peep...no one cried...no one woke up in the middle of the night. They went in at the same 7:30pm, and woke up at their same 7:15am! So now...bedtime is MUCH more pleasant, and much less stressful! And Daddy can start the Fall semester without the guilt of leaving me alone to give 2 babies their nighttime babas!

Getting rid of the nighttime bottle first is the smartest thing you could do! That nighttime bottle is usually the hardest to get rid of, as I myself found out first hand - twice. lmao. So props to you for getting rid of it first!!
I keep having this mental image of you chasing both kids around the room as they giggle and smile. They probable think it's part of their extended play time. haha.
