Hardhats Required

The helmet has arrived! Well..."Doc Band" is the actual name for it. TJ got fitted for his helmet on March 10th, and got his helmet on March 20th. I've backdated this post to try to preserve chronology on this blog! I apologize that I don't blog more often...but although the babies do get easier to handle as they get older, they also become more time consuming!

Back to the helmet. We went for his fitting on March 10th. What an interesting process! They took tons of "before pictures" first. Then, they put a nylon over his entire head (he looked like a bank robber), sat him on a pedastal, and took 3D images. That's it! Those pictures can literally create a 3D model of his skull. TJ behaved perfectly throughout the entire process...yes, even with the nylon over his head. Not even a peep!

10 Days later we went back for the helmet. They put it on, and then we had to take it off every 3 hours and check for red or sore spots. Those spots get shaved down in the helmet to make it fit perfectly. The first week was one of trial and error, but after 5 days and 4 trips to Paramus...he was finally wearing his helmet 23 hours a day. How long do you think it took TJ to get used to it? Well, the first night was TOUGH...it took him a whole 15 MINUTES longer to go to sleep than usual. HaHa. Yup...that was it. 15 minutes of fussing, and he fell asleep. That was the last time TJ showed any signs of helmet discomfort. He is SUCH a good boy. And here it is...drumroll please...
