4 Month Update

We are a little early, but due to the Christmas holiday coming up the twins went for their 4 month check-up last week.

Tyler was a whopping 9 lbs 4 oz. Well, whopping for him, but still less than the 3rd percentile (on the regular baby scale, not the preemie scale)! The doctor said that had we waited a few more weeks until their actual 4 month birthday, he would have definitely been on the chart! So he's doing a great job getting big, and should officially make the chart by next time. He was 20 3/4" tall, and his head circumference was 38 cm. All measurements just below the 3rd percentile. His Anemia test results came back normal, so he is no longer anemic either. We decided to keep him on the vitamin/iron supplements though, as his numbers were in the low end of the normal range. Since he is no longer having constipation problems from the iron, we thought it couldn't hurt to give him a little extra! Mommy was only fighting the iron supplement when it was making her baby uncomfortable. If he is okay though, we are okay!

Kayla was 11 lbs 6 oz, and 23" tall. Her head circumference was 39 cm. She falls into the 25th percentile on head & height, and her weight is in between the 25th and 50th percentile. Perfect!!!

The doctor reminded us that although they are technically almost 4 months old, developmentally we should only expect them to act like 6 week old babies at this point. So we are not ready for typical 4 month old stuff like solids or sitting up. But, for 6 week old babies...they are doing GREAT! See my next post regarding their developmental milestones...too much to write in one post!

Anyway, the Twins got their second round of immunizations too. They did great, with just about 30 seconds or so of crying after the actual needles. After that they went to sleep in their carriers, and went home. Daddy set Kayla up at home in her seat with her binkie to watch Sesame Street, and TJ slept next to Daddy on the couch. Both babies were fine this time around...no need for any Tylenol. They will be going back just before Christmas for their December RSV shot.

Doc said we will discuss solids at their next visit in Feb, and that we should keep TJ on his preemie formula until then. He said he can probably come off of it now, but a few more calories per ounce for a few more months will only help, not hinder...so just like the iron supplement, why not?

On to the development updates...
