The room that Kelly was transferred to on Friday was already occupied by one other girl in a similar situation. Lauren has complications of her own and will be there for 7 more weeks (after already being there for 3). Kelly was offered her own room, but she has decided to stay with Lauren after hearing the nightmare Lauren endured for the few weeks prior to Kelly’s arrival. Since they’re getting along so well, they figured that they could both avoid new roommate anxiety by sticking it out together.
While she’s not required to stay in bed, she has to limit her walking to bathroom breaks and showers. Any other travel around the hospital must be by wheelchair.
Apparently, Kelly is having contractions. We’ve since realized that she has quite a tolerance for pain – much to the surprise of the nurses. They have ranged between 8 minutes apart and 3 minutes apart, but she doesn’t have them everyday.
We’ve made their room a little cozier by bringing her a lamp from home. The fluorescent lighting in the room is TERRIBLE, so it has made quite a difference. Overall, her sprits are up. She has a few visitors a week and I plan on going everyday after work.
