Getting Ready for TJ & Kayla Update

Hi all! Sorry to have left you all hanging for so long, but things are rather busy around here now that we have a baby in the house!

Kayla is doing great at home. After a tough first week of having her days & nights confused, she has settled in. She has adjusted well, and seems to like living here. She eats between 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours. She pretty much sleeps all day, with the exception of between 8-12 at night. That seems to be her awake time. She isn't awake the wntire time, but we see a lot more of her eyes during those hours than any others. She has her "last" bottle of the night around midnight, and then sleeps usually until 4 or 5 am. She then takes another bottle, and goes back to sleep until between 8-9am. She still has some episodes on her monitor (she is on a monitor 24 hours a day that detects any Apnea or heart-rate drops), but Mom & Dad are getting used to it. As she gets older, those should decrease.

TJ is also doing great in the NICU, and is just about ready to come home. He is 4 lbs 3 oz now, and made the big transition to his big-boy crib last night! He is eating between 2-3 oz every 4 hours now, and is just growing and growing. He has not shown any signs of Apnea or heart-rate drops, so it looks like he should not need a monitor like his sister. The doctors will be testing him for it though (that is what happens when you are a twin)! They say "for symmetry, since his sister needs a monitor we will test to see if he might need one too." He passed his carseat test (making sure he doesn't have any breathing or heart-rate problems when in a car seat) and is really ready to come home. The doctors suspect that if nothing else starts up in the next day or two, he should be home by the weekend! Yippeeee!

I don't have any new pictures for you yet...as we try to squeeze in trips to see TJ as often as possible. Just when we thought nothing was harder than having 2 babies in the hospital...we found out that having ONE baby in the hospital and ONE baby at home is a LOT more difficult. At least when they were both there we could go everyday and spend as much time as possible. Now, we have to split our time there or find someone to sit with Kayla. And with the hospital being 1 hour away, it's hard to spend a lot of time with TJ or else we leave Kayla all day. Needless to say, we cannot wait to just have them both here with us.

After my 4 week stay at the hospital, followed by Kayla's 4 week and TJ's 6-7 week stay...we were walking into the hospital last week and Smitty said to me "If I never see this hospital again for the rest of my life...it will be too soon." Amen to that!
