More Good News...

The Hayward Twins are doing just great in the NICU! They are proving every day that they want to come home with Mommy & Daddy more than ever...and are doing everything right!

Kayla & Tyler both had brain scans this week, which is something they routinely do for babies born at 32 weeks or less. They need to make sure there isn't any bleeding on or around the brain. Both babies got negative results...which is really positive news - everything looked perfect!

TJ grew up so much in the past few days! First, his most recent weigh in brought him in at 2 lbs. 10.5 oz! He is getting so big! He is eating 21 mls per feeding now, and for those of you that have been keeping track...you know what that means! Yes, TJ had his Pic Line removed on Saturday, Sept 6th! That means no more IV for TJ! They will be fortifying his breastmilk (a little powder adder, for some extra calories), just because we want him to gain weight quickly. The removal was quick...and relatively painless. TJ was a brave boy, only letting out one or two big crys. Mommy, on the other hand, was not so brave and cried hysterically throughout the entire thing. Oh well...I'm sure I'll get used to this stuff eventually. More good news for our little boy too...officially off of his Phototherapy (the lights to bring down the Bilirubin). Ahhh...getting bigger and healthier every day! Here's our newest picture of TJ, a little more awake than usual!

The other good news we received this week was news for Kayla. First, her most recent weigh in was at 4 lbs. 3.5 oz! the second piece of good news came from their Nurse (Natalie, who loves both of our babies so much). She was looking over Kayla's chart and updating us and said "Oh!...she is listed at SCN status now!" Of course, being a total panicked mom who has no idea what "SCN status" meant I responded "WHAT?? What is that?? What does that mean??" Natalie just smiled at me and said softly, "It means that she isn't sick enough to be here anymore, Mom. It means that you'll probably be taking her home in about a week or so!" We couldn't believe it...it seemed so soon, especially since they were estimating mid-October for them. Of course it makes us a little sad that our little boy won't be joining us right away, but we know that he needs this special care a little longer than his sister...and all that matters is that he is doing an A+ job all in his own time! Basically though, Kayla is already ready for the "step-down room" (the step between NICU and home), but they are keeping her in her place in the NICU next to her brother so they can keep them together until they need the space. Here is Kayla, dressed in her own clothes for the first time!

We'll keep you all posted as new developments unfold! In the meantime, we'll be getting the house ready for the second of three homecomings! Almost there!
