Nursery Done, TJ Takes a Bottle, Kayla Coming Home Soon!

Hi all! Sorry it's been a few days...we've been busy, busy, busy getting ready for the babies to come home. Both Kayla & TJ are still doing great in the NICU. Here are the new developments:

TJ is now 2 lbs 14 oz...only 2 oz. away from 3 lbs! Mommy gave him his first bottle last night, and he took all 26 mls! He has been rooting a lot lately, and sucking away on his binkie...so the doctors gave him the ok to try to eat on his own. The rule is for the nurses (or Smit & me) to attempt the bottle at every feeding, and to see how he does. As soon as he falls asleep (or if he already is too sleepy) they just give it to him through his tube. We still don't want him to burn too many calories, so we aren't pushing him. Just going at his own speed! He is doing so great though, and charming all of the nurses in the NICU! All the ladies fall all over him, and say that he is the cutest little man ever! They all have little nicknames for him like "Lovebug", "My Little Man", "Handsome Man", etc. They even fight over who gets to be his primary nurse for the night! Sometimes nurses who we've never even met walk by and stop to tell us how cute and how good our two babies are! Here's TJ, waving to you all:

And here he is taking his first bottle, and his first burping with Mommy!

Kayla is now 4 lbs 14 oz, and eating between 75 - 100 mls (90 ml = 3 oz) of breastmilk every 4 hours! She is growing quickly, and getting ready for her homecoming. She is in a crib now (she came out of her Isolette on Friday, 9/12), or what we've been calling her "Big Girl Bed". She has been showing some signs of Apnea or decreased heartrate and/or respiration when she sleeps, so she will be coming home on a monitor to check for those things. It's not very invasive, just a band around her belly. Better safe than sorry, and it will probably help us sleep better at night. At this point, they said as soon as she goes 24 hours without an episode and we are trained on using the machine, she will be coming home! They are estimating Friday. Yippeeee! Here she is in her Big-Girl Hospital Bed:

And here she is after Mommy gave her a nice bath and dressed her in a special outfit for her night with Daddy:

Smit & I FINALLY finished the nursery last night! It has been a work in progress for a while, but I think we are pretty much done now. How do you like it?

Hopefully the babies will like it as much as we do!
